Save Machine

Posted in installations, student work by tilmanrichter on August 20, 2008

Omnipresent surveillance is a situation we will have to cope with in the future. Emerging technologies like cellspaces for mobile phones, GPS and RFID – just to name a few – make our brave new world much comfortable and saver. At the same time we will become easier to monitor. I am interested in the behavioral change of people aware of this situation. In this case, in an art exhibition.

Saving Everybody is an installation in two rooms. Two steles, one on the first floor, the other on the third. When visitors entered the object took an image. This image was sent to the third floor, and printed out.

The blank design of the machine enables the visitor to develope his own interpretation about function and meaning of the machine, about a machine that is saving everybody.

The machine saved over 3,000 images, some 120 meters of imagery were printed over the time of the exhibition. A pile of personal information.
